An exceptional, fine and impressive vintage Russian silver and polychrome cloisonne enamel sugar basket; an addition to our diverse silver teaware collection

This exceptional vintage Russian silver sugar basket has a plain circular form.


The surface of the Russian basket is embellished with fine and impressive cloisonné stemmed foliate and floral designs using various tones of blue and green accented with paralleling bands of white enamel circular motifs, all on a black enamel background.


The enamel segments are encompassed with applied silver paralleling rope twist ornamentation.


This fine basket is fitted with a swing handle embellished with further black enamel with circular motifs, in addition to scrolling silver gilt rope decoration to the handpiece.


The interior of the Russian silver basket retains the original gilding.


The sugar basket is supported by a circular collet foot embellished with a continuous band of white enamel circular motifs.


The hallmarks to the reverse surface of the bowl include:

Maker's mark: Untraced

Soviet silver mark: Hammer and sickle star emblem

Assay mark: Leningrad*

Silver quality/purity mark: 916 (916/1000)


* The modern day city name of Lenigrad is St. Petersburg.
