This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver sugar caster has a circular baluster shaped form onto a circular stepped spreading domed foot.

The plain body of the sterling silver caster is embellished with the contemporary engraved initials 'AB', and encompassed with bands of tooled decoration.

The body and cast foot are further ornamented with moulded borders to the rims.

This large Georgian silver caster retains the original hallmarked push fit cover, embellished with impressive panels of finely pierced scrolling leaf designs alternating with trellis style motifs.

The rare Newcastle silver caster cover is surmounted by an impressive cast sterling silver baluster-shaped finial.

This exceptional example of Georgian silverware was crafted by the renowned Newcastle silversmith James Kirkup; such examples by this maker are rare to the market and becoming increasingly difficult to locate.

Maker: James Kirkup

This antique 18th century sugar caster in sterling silver is a superior gauge of silver, as to be expected of this type of period caster.
