Sterling Silver Candlesticks - Antique George VI (1937)

£1,495.00

A fine and impressive, pair of antique George VI English sterling silver candlesticks; part of our ornamental silverware collection

SKU C8368

These impressive antique 1930s English sterling silver candlesticks have a plain subtly tapering columnar form.

The impressive Corinthian capital of each retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit sconce ornamented with embossed bead decoration to the rim.

The subtly tapering panelled columns are supported by a circular boss to a square swept foot.

The base of each candlestick is embellished with a band of embossed floral rosette and bud garlands, flanked with bead decorated borders.

Both candlesticks have weighted bases and are fitted with green baize to the underside.

NOTE: * The initials displayed within the maker's marks (MS), in addition to the standardisation of the surround could pertain to a multitude of antique silversmiths; these silversmiths include Morris Salkind and Morris Sternberg. This mark has been seen on a multitude of Judaica silver items.

Maker: Untraced Maker's Mark

Date: 1937

These antique 1930s candlesticks in sterling silver are an excellent gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent presentation condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each candlestick and part hallmarks to the capital are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these fine examples of Judaica silverware.

Height 26.90cm/10.59"

Width of sconce 7cm/2.76"

Width of base 9.70cm/3.82"

An accurate weight of silver cannot be provided as these candlesticks have weighted bases.
