This exceptional antique brooch has been crafted in 18 ct yellow gold.
The brooch has been modelled in the form of a decorative architectural column.
The centre of the brooch bears an impressive carved agate, ornamented with fluted decoration reflecting that of a classic column.
The feature agate is encompassed with textured yellow gold bands, in a spiralling design.
The upper portion of the brooch is embellished with impressive scrolling leaf decoration and the base is ornamented with impressive interlacing mythological creatures.
The Victorian brooch secures to the reverse with a hinged pin and hook fastening.
This reverse of the setting bears a 'lozenge mark' which certifies the patent of this piece on 8th November 1880 with the UK Patent Office.
This antique agate and gold brooch has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18 ct.
