Scottish Sterling Silver Gilt Punch/Soup Ladle - Antique William IV

£6,950.00

A magnificent, fine and impressive, rare antique Scottish sterling silver gilt punch/ soup ladle; an addition to our silver cutlery collection

SKU C7601

This magnificent William IV sterling silver punch ladle has been hand forged in a rare and unusual design.

The handle of the punch/soup ladle has been realistically modelled in the form of a horse's head, emanating from an impressive scrolling enveloping leaf design.

The tapering stem is embellished with the contemporary engraved presentation inscription 'Presented to A. C. Renton by his father on his birth day, 3rd May 1833'.

The reverse of this impressive example of antique silverware features an exceptional honeysuckle style heel to the shell shaped bowl.

This exceptional 19th century example of Scottish silverware retains the original gilding.

This magnificent ladle is rare and the finest example of its type you could hope to acquire.

Maker: James McKay

Date: 1833

This antique sterling silver punch ladle is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and is in exceptional presentation condition.

The original gilding has some wear to the stem, in keeping with age.

Full Scottish silver hallmarks struck to the stem are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of Scottish silverware.
