This antique George I Britannia standard silver* porringer has a circular rounded form.
The lower portion of this antique porringer is embellished with embossed fluted decoration in a swirl design.
The upper portion is encircled with further embossed decoration amidst two bands of quatrefoil motifs.
The decoration to the body incorporates a scrolling leaf and scale motif bordered vacant oval cartouche to one side.
This silver antique porringer is fitted with two ribbed S scroll handles.
* Britannia Silver - The Britannia silver standard of 958 (95.84% of fine silver), denoted by the icon of the seated Britannia holding an oval shield, was introduced by William III in 1697. This was to indicate the slightly higher standard of silver from sterling silver standard of 925 (92.5% of fine silver).
