Cut Glass and Sterling Silver Mounted Lemonade/Claret Jug - Antique Victorian

£1,755.00

An exceptional, fine and impressive, large antique Victorian cut glass and English sterling silver mounted lemonade/claret jug made by Hukin & Heath; an addition to our wine and drink related collection

SKU A1676

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver and cut glass claret/lemonade jug has a tapering cylindrical form graduating to a tapering square shaped base.

The cylindrical neck is fitted with a fine sterling silver, hallmarked mount with the original hallmarked hinged cover incorporating a plain plateaued thumbpiece.

The neck of this antique claret jug is embellished with ribbed glass ornamentation.

The body of the antique glass lemonade jug retains the original broad hallmarked mounts fitted with an elongated C shaped sterling silver handle.

These mounts each feature a hinge to the opposing surface to the handle; these decorative hinges were originally used in the crafting process.

The glass body of the jug is embellished with exceptional subdivided panels of hobnail style cut glass ornamentation accented with geometric motifs to the incurves.

The glass vessel of this exceptional claret jug is further ornamented with a faceted star motif to the underside.

This exceptional antique jug was crafted by John Thomas Heath & John Hartshorne Middleton of Hukin & Heath (subsequently Hukin & Heath Ltd).

Date: 1898

This antique claret jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The glass is in perfect condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the mounts and part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are deeply struck due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this impressive example of antique glassware.
