[email protected] AC Silver are pleased to offer a fine range of antique silver pieces by Frank Cobb & Co Ltd. Frank Cobb worked as a clerk in an electroplate factory and in 1903 he founded a business in West Street, later moving to Howard Works on Howard Street. He created plated goods and registered marks with Sheffield Assay Office in 1903 onwards. During the challenging times of the 1920s Cobb prospered and purchased Boardman, Glossop & Co and Walter & Latham & Son. By the late 1920s his factories were flourishing and he had a workforce of around 250 people. His company grew further in the 1930s, when Cobb purchased the firm W. S. Savage & Co - relocating once more and renaming the workshop Howard Works, Broad Street. The firm was incorporated in 1947 and ten years later Frank Cobb died. The flatware firm continued, with its main products being silver and EPNS flatware, hand-soldered cutlery, and ivory-handled table cutlery. In 1983 the company purchased the holloware business Cooper Bros, and the group as a whole was liquidated in 1986.
