[email protected]Henry Harrison was born into a family traditionally associated with metalwork and cofounded the highly established English silversmithing company of Harrison Brothers & Howson. In circa 1820 Henry formed the company with his brothers, in addition to a partner John Howson, and they were based in Sheffield.
The company gained a reputation for high-quality silverware and cutlery, in addition to manufacturing items in other metals due to their broad knowledge and upbringing. The company took guidance from Harrison and expanded to create ornate and luxury tableware. The company succeeded greatly by their flexibility to move with the market and demand, which was a prominent part of Victorian silver history, with the middle class desiring affordable yet stylise pieces; thus introducing electroplated items to provide an cost effective luxury and elegance.
The company further aided their own success by participating in international exhibitions and showcasing British craftsmanship to the world, gaining further acknowledgement and awards for their high quality globally.
The company continued and thrived into the late 19th and early 20th centuries, long after the death of Henry Harrison; this created a deep-rooted mark on the company as he had been a key figure and created an imposing legacy for quality of materials, skill involved and the attention to detail for each piece.
