This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver vesta box has been mounted onto a deer's hoof*.
This antique hoof vesta box is encompassed with a fine and impressive plain silver mount, fitted with a flush hinged cover to each of the two toes; the flush hinges indicate the high quality of the pieces.
The surface of the covers are embellished with the contemporary engraved inscription 'Hunthill' and '1903'
The posterior surface of this impressive Edwardian vesta case is ornamented with a hallmarked 'horseshoe' design, in addition to two serrated panels/match strikers.
* It can be determined this is a mature buck's hoof due to its size. The cloven hoof (otherwise known as a cleft, divided or split hoof) forms two toes and the intergidital cleft. The hard outer coating is called the hoof wall or horn; a supstance similar to the human fingernail.
