This antique Georgian sterling silver meat skewer/letter opener* has a tapered form.
The surface of this antique solid silver meat skewer is embellished with the contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting out of a naval crown an eagle with wings extended, holding in the beak a wheat stalk.
The reverse surface is plain and unembellished apart from the featured hallmarks.
This exceptional example of silver flatware was crafted by the renowned Newcastle silversmith John Langlands I.
* The original use of this item was purely as a meat skewer. Due to its form, this piece may certainly be used as an effective letter opener.
