Paste Cabochon Foil and 15ct Yellow Gold Brooch - Antique Victorian

£995.00

A fine and impressive antique Victorian paste and 15 carat yellow gold brooch; part of our antique jewellery and estate jewelry collections

SKU W8856

This impressive antique Victorian gold brooch has been crafted in 15ct yellow gold.

The antique brooch displays a collet set paste cabochon foil* in relief within an oval 15ct yellow gold frame.

The feature imitation amethyst is encircled by an applied rope twist decorated border.

The oval frame is ornamented with applied rope twist decorated semi-circular motifs incorporating applied trefoil designs in addition to applied spiral twist decoration encircling both the cabochon and the border around the brooch.

The antique gold brooch secures to the reverse with a hinged pin and hook fastening and benefits from the additional security of a fine link chain with a safety clip.

This 1880s brooch is supplied with an IDGL diamond grading report card.

This impressive brooch has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 15ct gold.

NOTE*:

During the Victorian Era, non-precious pastes were a part of evening jewellery sets. They were also used in pieces intended to convey coded messages of romance, based on the colours of the pastes. Such crystals, which were made of high-lead-content glass and had a permanent foil backing, gave the illusion of almost any gemstone, including diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds and amethysts.

Images do not always reflect the true colour and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual colour and showcases each stone.

Date: Circa 1880

This brooch is fine quality, set with an amethyst imitation antique paste cabouchon.

The brooch is a good gauge of gold and is in excellent condition, with sharp applied decoration.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of antique jewellery/estate jewelry.
