[email protected]This partnership is a continuation of the highly respected Bateman family. In 1790 the renowned London silversmith Hester Bateman’s sons, Peter Bateman and Jonathan Bateman registered their own independent mark, Peter & Jonathan Bateman. This partnership lasted only six months as Jonathan died in 1791, leaving behind his wife Ann Bateman (previously Downlinff) and son William. Upon this change Peter Bateman entered a mark with his brothers widow Ann Bateman; often mistaken for Hester Bateman’s daughter Ann Bateman, who married Richard Cottrill.
In 1800 Jonathan and Ann Bateman’s son William (I) joined into a partnership with his mother and uncle Peter, registering the mark Peter Bateman, Ann Bateman and William (I) Bateman. Upon the retirement of Ann Bateman, the new mark of Peter Bateman and William (I) Bateman was registered.
