Plique-a-Jour and Ruby, 18ct Yellow Gold Butterfly Brooch - Vintage Spanish Circa 1970

£1,995.00

A stunning, fine and impressive plique-à-jour and 0.06 carat ruby, 18ct carat yellow gold brooch in the form of a butterfly; part of our diverse antique jewellery and estate jewelry collections

SKU C5579

This fine and impressive vintage brooch has been crafted in 18ct yellow gold.

The brooch has been modelled in the form of a butterfly.

The butterfly's wings are composed yellow gold frames accented with impressive plique-à-jour* panels.

Each forewing and hindwing are fitted to impressive hinges and articulate from the thorax.

The butterfly's abdomen and head have a textured finish, replicating the insect's natural formation.

The head is further ornamented with two antennae, in addition to two four-claw set round faceted cut ruby eyes.

The brooch secures to the reverse with a hinged pin and clasp.

This vintage butterfly brooch is hallmarked to the reverse of the abdomen with the country mark (SPAIN) the 18ct gold mark (18K) and the maker's mark.

The brooch is supplied with an independent diamond grading report card.

NOTE: * Plique-à-jour is a vitreous enamelling technique similar in technical execution to cloisonné, where the enamel is applied to defined 'cells' within a metal filigree. With plique-à-jour, there is no backing to the design, allowing light to pass through the enamelwork, suggestive of stained glass. Plique-à-jour is derived from the French 'braid letting in daylight'.

Images do not always reflect the true colour and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual colour and showcases each stone.

This impressive vintage butterfly brooch is exceptional quality, set with impressive plique-à-jour enamel panels and rubies displaying fine colour and brilliance.

The brooch is an exceptional gauge of gold and is in exceptional condition, with clear hallmarks to the reverse of the setting.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine vintage butterfly brooch with moveable wings.
