* Hot enamel is a material formed by firing powdered glass to create a hardened, durable hyaloid coating; also known as vitreous enamel, deriving from the Latin word 'vitreum', meaning 'glass'. Due to the nature of the ornamentation deriving from glass, opposed to painted alternatives, the vibrant colour does not fade under ultraviolet light and it retains useful properties such as being smooth, hard, durable and easy to clean.
** Gate bracelets came into fashion during the Victorian era. The name 'gate' bracelet alludes to the unusual chain style of interlocked barred panels, emulating the gates and fences of English country estates and castles.
