Sterling Silver Candlesticks by George Howson - Antique Edwardian (1901)

£1,295.00

A fine and impressive pair of antique Edwardian English sterling silver candlesticks with sporting interest; an addition to our diverse ornamental silverware collection

SKU A3995

These fine antique Edwardian sterling silver candlesticks have plain circular, octagonal panelled form onto an oval spreading base.

The cylindrical rounded capital of the antique silver candlesticks retain the original navette shaped detachable push fit sconces.

The tapering octagonal panelled column of each candlestick is embellished with impressive applied fluted ornamentation accented with a band of fluted floral designs to the centre.

The base is encompassed with further applied narrow fluted decoration in a graduated design.

The concave incurved channel of each base bears the contemporary bright cut engraved presentation inscription 'Eltham Ladies Mixed Foursomes, Won by Mrs & Mr A.C.Latter, June 1902, Presented by R. Whyte Esq'.

Both candle holders have filled bases, as to be expected and are fitted with green baize to the underside.

Date: 1901

These antique silver candlesticks are an exceptional gauge of silver for their type, excellent quality and in excellent condition.

There is natural fire to the surface of each candlestick, in keeping with age.

The applied decoration is all very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the rim of each base and part hallmarks to the sleeve of each sconce are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of Edwardian silverware.

Height 15cm/5.9"

Length of sconce 6.5cm/2.6"

Length of base 11.2cm/4.4"

Width of base 8.6cm/3.4"

An accurate weight for silver content cannot be provided as these candlesticks have weighted bases.
