This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver mounted and antler handled carving and fish serving set consists of two carving knives, two carving forks, a sharpening steel, a pair of fish servers and four knife rests.
The fine and impressive plain steel blades of the carving knives have a plain pointed form, incorporating the retailer's mark 'Allen & Darwin, Silversmiths & Cutlers, Sheffield' to the anterior surface.
The electroplated blade to the fish knife and the fish fork both have a broad incurved shaped form.
The fish servers have fine and impressive bright cut engraved scrolling leaf decoration, each incorporating wrigglework decorated interlacing, scrolling designs.
The posterior surface of each shaped fish server blade is plain and embellished with a paralleling simple border to the incurved edge.
Each piece of this antique silver carving set is fitted with a shaped antler handle featuring an impressive hallmarked sterling silver embossed fluted decorated terminal.
All the components retain the hallmarked sterling silver ferrules ornamented with a broad band of embossed fluted ornamentation.
The electroplated and silver knife rests have rounded, cross shaped terminals with a cylindrical mother of pearl decorated horizontal supports.
This antler carving set is fitted to the fine and impressive original, hinged oak wood presentation box ornamented with a satin wood inlay, replicating the details of the strap lines of a late 19th century suitcase.
The anterior surface of the box cover is further embellished with the original shaped brass vacant cartouche.
The presentation box opens to reveal the original yellow buttoned satin lined interior, in addition to the velvet and satin lined interior.
