These fine antique George IV English sterling silver game skewers/letter opener* has a plain tapered form.

The anterior and posterior surfaces of the skewer are embellished with chased decorated shell designs below the plain circular ring loop fingerpiece.

* The original use of this item was purely as a game/meat skewer. Due to its form, this piece may certainly be used as an effective letter opener.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each skewer show wear in keeping with the age; all the hallmarks are clear apart from the maker’s marks which are rubbed and illegible.
