Sterling Silver Presentation Bowl by Mappin & Webb - Antique Victorian (1894)

£6,950.00

A magnificent, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver presentation bowl; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection

SKU C6512

This magnificent antique Victorian sterling silver bowl has a circular rounded form onto a circular domed spreading foot.

The lower portion of the body is encircled with fine chased alternating fluted and leaf decoration, accented with convex oval motifs.

The upper portion of this Mappin and Webb bowl is encircled with a magnificent broad band of chased interlacing foliate ornamentation accented with rope twist decorated stems, all on a matte background and above an evolute scrolling border.

This large silver bowl is fitted with two exceptional cast and applied handles each with imposing leaf decorated sockets with a segmented knop to the centre of the handpiece.

The domed portion of the circular foot is encompassed with further chased ornamentation reflecting the design to the body.

This magnificent bowl was crafted by John Newton Mappin of Mappin & Webb.

If required, this antique bowl is suitable for a personal engraved inscription. Once confirmation of the engraving details has been received and confirmed the process will take between 14-21 days.

Date: 1894

This antique Victorian Mappin and Webb bowl is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The chased and cast decoration is all very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body are all very clear; the first portion of the maker's mark has wear but remains legible.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique barware.
