Sterling Silver Presentation Cup and Cover - Art Deco - Antique George VI

£4,345.00

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George VI English sterling silver presentation cup and cover in the Art Deco style; an addition to our silver presentation collection

SKU A2194

This fine antique George VI sterling silver presentation cup and cover has a tapering cylindrical form to a circular domed, spreading foot.

The surface of the cup is plain and unembellished.

The cup retains the original hallmarked push fit cover surmounted with an exceptional and large sterling silver tiered finial accented with carved panels, all in the iconic Art Deco style.

This cup is fitted with two fine angular handles with swept lower portions and Art Deco fluted ornamentation to the handpiece.

The surface and rim of the circular foot of the cup is ornamented with incurved chased decoration.

By virtue of its size, this versatile cup could be used as a champagne/bottle cooler or a fine presentation cup.

This impressive cup and cover was crafted by the London silversmiths at the Central School of Arts & Crafts* in 1938.

* After running his own workshops and retail facilities, the notable and collectable Art Deco silversmith Henry George Murphy (otherwise known as H. G. Murphy) became the head of Silversmithing at the school in 1932 and progressed to become an influential principal within four years.

Maker: Central School of Arts & Crafts

Date: 1938

This antique sterling silver cup and cover is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the cup and part hallmarks to the rim of the cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.
