Sterling Silver Samovar - Antique George III (1777)

£7,645.00

A magnificent, fine and impressive, antique George III English sterling silver samovar; an addition to our Georgian silver teaware collection

SKU A9392

This magnificent antique George III sterling silver samovar has a plain urn shaped form supported by a spreading circular pedestal foot onto a plain square base and four bracket style feet.

The body of this impressive antique Georgian samovar is encompassed with a chased bud festooned suspended from ribbon bow decorated oval medallions, one depicting a floral motif and the other forming a cartouche.

The oval cartouche to the anterior surface of the samovar depicts a contemporary bright cut engraved crest of demi-lion rampant and collared.

The upper rim of the body is encircled with a band of applied bead decoration.

The anterior surface of the body incorporates a fine and impressive cast spigot accented with moulded decoration, incorporating the exceptional and original carved incurved shaped handle.

The samovar is fitted with a pair of narrow loop handles with further moulded decoration to the handpieces.

This impressive Georgian silver samovar retains the original plain domed hallmarked push fit cover surmounted with an impressive cast sterling silver acorn style finial.

The surface of the cover is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved aforementioned crest.

The body of the samovar secures to the pedestal with a bayonet fitment to the rim.

The circular portion of the pedestal is encompassed with chased bead ornamentation and bears the identical crest to that of the body and cover.

The lower section of the plain pedestal foot is supported by four impressive Regency style bracket feet.

Maker: James Young

Date: 1777

This antique samovar is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

There are some minor surface blemishes as to be expected, in keeping with age.

The applied and chased decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved heraldry is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the body and rim of the base, in addition to part hallmarks to the sleeve of the cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silverware.
