Sterling Silver Sauceboats - Antique Victorian (1873)

£4,895.00

A magnificent, fine and impressive pair of antique Victorian English sterling silver sauceboats; an addition to our dining silverware collection

SKU A8382

These magnificent antique Victorian sterling silver sauce boats have a plain oval rounded form onto an oval shaped pedestal foot.

The lower portion of each large piece is embellished with flat chased interlacing strapwork accented with intertwining scrolling leaf decoration.

The ornamentation to the underside of each spout incorporates an oval cartouche displaying the contemporary bright cut engraved crest of a greyhound.

The rim of each antique sauceboat is ornamented with an impressive applied undulating band accented with floral motifs.

These large silver sauceboats are fitted with impressive cast sterling silver handles, embellished with scrolling leaf decorated thumbpieces and incorporating a ribbed motif to the handpiece.

The lower portion of each handle is ornamented with an exceptional and large scrolling leaf design in junction with the body.

Each oval foot is ornamented with a band of chased undulating decoration.

These magnificent sauce boats are large examples for their type.

Maker: Lambert & Co (George Lambert )

Date: 1873

These large silver sauceboats are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

There are some minor natural fire marks, as to be expected in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks struck to the body of each are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these examples of antique silverware.
