This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver taperstick has been modelled in the form of an elderly female figure* holding a chamberstick.
The body of this silver taper candle holder is embellished with embossed decoration, replicating the details of the woman's fabric night-clothes and anatomical features.
This impressive character is holding a plain circular chamberstick, which functions as a taperstick capital.
The figure is compartmentalised and fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover/head, comprising a vesta box.
This exceptional example of Victorian silverware is supported by a circular domed foot incorporating a textured band/match striker to the anterior surface and underside.
* This figure can be associated with the 19th century character Old Mother Hubbard. Whilst she does not appear with her dog, therefore this cannot be definitive, there is a wide range of antique silver items crafted through time to reflect this cherished nursery rhyme.
