This exceptional antique Victorian three piece silver tea set consists of a teapot, sugar bowl and cream jug.
The pieces of this 1880s silver tea set have an oval incurved form; the cream jug has a tapering form.
The surface of each piece is embellished with fine and impressive bright cut engraved foliate and floral head designs, bordering a vacant oval cartouche to either side.
The upper and lower rims of each item are encompassed with an applied bead decorated border.
The upper plateau of the teapot is ornamented with further bright cut engraved foliate decoration, reflecting the same style as that to the body.
The teapot is fitted with a flush hinged hallmarked cover; the flush hinge indicates the high quality of the service.
The domed portion of the cover features chased subtly concave fluted decoration and is surmounted with the original silver topped carved oval finial.
Each piece is fitted with a fine and impressive C shaped handle incorporating a plain scrolling thumbpiece.
The teapot is fitted with an impressive tapering oil can style spout, ornamented to the lower portion with further bright cut engraved stemmed foliage decoration.
The cream jug and sugar bowl retain the original gilded interiors.
