This stunning and rare antique gold brooch has been crafted in 14ct yellow gold.
The brooch has been crafted in the form of a three dimensional grasshopper.
The body and wings are embellished with an impressive array of bead motifs, each encircled with a spiralling border, replicating the variety of organic textures within the insect's anatomy.
Both of the compound eyes of the grasshopper take the form of a collet set, cabochon cut turquoise, totalling 0.06ct.
The thorax and abdomen of the insect are each embellished with an individually four claw set, Old European round cut diamond.
The grasshopper is further ornamented with yellow gold legs, incorporating pierced decoration to the hind femur.
The underside of the brooch is embellished with plain wirework style ornamentation, replicating the details of the insect's spiracle, and completing the anatomical design.
This rare and unusual brooch secures to the reverse with a hinged pin and hook.
The antique gold brooch is hallmarked to the reverse with the French import mark for 14ct yellow gold (St Jacques shell with an 'a' to the centre).
The gold grasshopper brooch is fitted to a fine and impressive hinged push fit blue leatherette and satin lined presentation case.
The satin lined interior displays the highly regarded London maker and retailer's mark 'Tessier, New Bond Street, London'.
