This impressive antique Worcestershire Regiment brooch has been crafted in 15 ct yellow gold.
The bar brooch is ornamented with the ribbed, eight-pointed star cap badge (1902-1923) of the Worcestershire Regiment*, incorporating the Royal lion passant encircled by the regimental motto within a pale blue enamelled belted border (garter): 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense' - (Shame Be To Him Who Evil Thinks).
This fine WWI regimental sweetheart brooch also incorporates the associated one word motto 'FIRM' displayed within a white enamelled ribbon motif above the dark blue enamelled banner emblazoned with 'WORCESTERSHIRE REG'.
This fine example of antique jewellery is hallmarked with the 15ct gold fineness mark (15ct) and secures to the reverse with a hinged pin.
NOTES
*In 1881 the 29th Foot and 36th Foot Regiments amalgamated into the Worcestershire Regiment.
In 1970 the Worcestershire Regiment and The Sherwood Foresters Regiment amalgamated, latterly becoming part of the Mercian Regiment in the early 2000's.
Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense is the Latin motto of the Order of the Garter.
In the late 1700s the star cap badge was originally elongated, becoming more symmetrical in the late 1800s. In 1923 a War Office letter confirmed King George V approved the 'restoration to the Regiment of its old form of badge, in the shape of a properly elongated star'.
