This exceptional Scottish sterling silver snuff/table box has an oval cylindrical form.
The surface of this antique box is plain and embellished with an applied 15ct yellow gold scrolling leaf design to the anterior upper portion.
This Scottish silver table snuff box is fitted with an impressive hallmarked hinged cover, surmounted with an applied yellow gold scrolling decoration to a shield shaped vacant cartouche.
The upper plateau of the cover is further embellished with flat engraved scrolling leaf decoration.
The anterior rim of the cover features moulded border accented with a paralleling applied, moulded yellow gold thumbpiece, creating a continuation from the body and cover decoration; the applied gold details indicate the high quality of the piece.
This exceptional antique silver and gold box retains the original gilding to the interior of the body and cover.
The applied decoration has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 15 carat gold.
Such examples with applied gold details are difficult to locate.
