A fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver and tortoiseshell trinket/jewellery box; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection

SKU A1942

This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver trinket/jewellery box has a plain circular form.

The surface of the body and sides of the cover are plain and embellished with applied moulded borders.

This antique box is fitted with a hallmarked push fit cover incorporating an impressive tortoiseshell panel ornamented with silver piqué work depicting floral bud swags above a suspended vase/bowl accommodating an arrangement of flowers.

The cover is encircled with a fine and impressive applied festoon style border to the rim.

The box is supported by three scrolling feet accented with a trifurcating scrolling sockets.

This antique tortoiseshell box is fitted with the original velvet lined interior; this lining is quite modest, however original to the item.

The weighted base of this impressive tortoiseshell trinket box is fitted with leatherette to the underside.

This impressive antique trinket box was crafted in the same year by two different makers; the box by Edward Souter Barnsley of E S Barnsley & Co, in Birmingham and the cover by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd in London.

This antique silver and tortoiseshell box is a very good gauge of silver, very good quality and in excellent condition, in keeping with age.

The tortoiseshell and piqué work are in perfect condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the of the cover and underside of the box are all very clear; the maker's mark to the underside of the box shows signs of wear but remains legible.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Edwardian silverware.

Diameter 7cm/2.8"

Height 4.2cm/1.7"

Not measurable due to the weighted base and tortoiseshell.
