The pieces of this comprehensive service were crafted by the Sheffield silversmith V B Vickers & Co in 1930.
The original knives were crafted by the handle specialists Yates Brothers in 1930 and the stainless steel blades of the original table and dessert knives bear the mark 'Universe Cutlery, Sheffield Made' incorporated into a garter, in addition to the mark 'Firth, Brearley, Stainless De luxe'.
This impressive canteen of cutlery is fitted to the original, fine and impressive oak wood lift up lid and three draw canteen table; this is an impressive piece of furniture in its own right.
Each draw is fitted with two brass handles and an escutcheon to the anterior surface.
The interior of each drawer and the lift up lid retain the original green velvet interior.
This exceptional example of antique furniture retains the original fitted fully working locking mechanism and key.
Such compact canteen tables are desirable and becoming increasingly difficult to locate.
