Sterling Silver and Glass Serving Preserve Baskets - Antique Edwardian

£2,250.00

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique Edwardian English sterling silver and glass serving preserve baskets; an addition to our silver cruet and condiments collection

SKU C7494

These exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver preserve baskets / pots have an oval form.

The lower portion of each preserve pot is encircled with chased concave fluted decoration.

The body of each piece is comprised of graduating intertwining wirework designs, emanating from an incurved border to the lower portion and terminating with a cast and applied gadroon decorated upper rim.

These exceptional antique preserve pots are fitted with the original hallmarked push fit covers surmounted with a wirework loop decorated finial/fingerpiece.

These preserve pots are each fitted with the original interlacing wirework decorated swing handles.

Each basket retains the original preserve spoon, accented with a shell decorated bowl and a wirework loop ornamentation to the handle terminal.

Each exceptional basket retains the original plain oval glass liner, with star cut ornamentation to the lower portion.

These exceptional serving preserve baskets were crafted by the Sheffield silversmiths James Dixon & Sons Ltd in 1902 and the spoon was crafted in Birmingham by Norton & White in 1903; it was often the case the serving spoon would be crafted by a specialist manufacturer to match the receptacles design.

Date: 1902

These antique sterling silver and glass preserve pots are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The original glass vessels are in perfect condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each preserve pot and rim of each cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of antique silverware.
