An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare antique George IV Newcastle sterling silver inkstand made by Thomas Wheatley; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection

This exceptional antique George IV Newcastle sterling silver inkstand has an oval form onto four bracket and ball style feet.


This antique silver inkstand is plain and unembellished, with a raised swept border encompassed with an applied gadroon decoration to the rim.


The body of the inkstand incorporates two applied circular ink bottle receivers, embellished with gadroon decoration to the rims.


The two internal compartments retain the original blue glass ink bottles with moulded glass ornamentation.


The ink bottles retain the original plain hallmarked silver cylindrical push fit covers, encircled with bands of tooled decoration.


This antique hallmarked silver inkstand is supported by four impressive cast silver bracket style feet embellished ball motifs to the terminals.


This antique silver inkstand with blue glass bottles was crafted by the renowned Newcastle silversmith Thomas Wheatley.


Such provincial Newcastle examples are rare to the market.

This antique silver and glass inkstand is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The blue glass ink bottles are in perfect condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the stand are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

The hallmarks to the receivers and bottle covers have wear in keeping with age and location.


Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this antique silver inkstand with blue glass bottles.
