This exceptional and unusual antique George V Scottish sterling silver medallion has a circular form.
The anterior surface of this antique silver medallion is embellished with the contemporary engraved presentation inscription 'Presented by The Lady Octavia Shaw Stewart to the Octavia Bicycle Club, 1891'.
The posterior surface of the medallion bears engraved ornamentation replicating the details of a bicycle wheel's spokes, with each segment bearing the name and date of the winner's race.
The swept raised border to each side of the medallion is encircled with an undulating engraved border reflecting the stylised tread of a bike wheel.
The outer rim of the medallion is plain and unembellished.
The apex of this exceptional and collectable antique Victorian silver medallion is surmounted with a cast model of a bicycle, incorporating engraved features highlighting the frame, spokes and mechanisms.
The upper portion of the model bears a plain ring loop; this allows the medallion to be suspended from a ribbon or chain.
Such medallions with cast silver models to the apex are rare to the market.
An antique sterling silver cycling medallion is a rare piece of sporting history, ideal for cycling enthusiasts, silver collectors, and sports memorabilia connoisseurs.
