£2,695.00

An exceptional, unusual, fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver inkwell in the form of a frog; part of our antique diverse ornamental silverware collection

SKU A9849

This exceptional antique Edwardian English sterling silver inkwell has been modelled in the form of a perched frog.

The surface of this impressive novelty silver inkwell is embellished with embossed details reproducing the details of the frog's anatomical features, in addition to the formal attire comprised of trousers, buttoned jacket and bowtie.

This unusual and rare silver inkwell is fitted with an impressive hinged hallmarked sterling silver cover modelled in the form of the frog's top hat.

The cover opens to allow access to the removable glass ink liner.

The figure is perched on the rim of a plain oval platform, incorporating a sunken well.

The weighted base bears green baize to the underside.

Maker: Samuel Jacob

Date: 1904

This antique silver inkwell is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the frog's body and oval dish, in addition to part hallmarks to the posterior surface of the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this antique novelty silver inkwell.
