Sterling Silver Taperstick - Antique George II (1730)

This fine antique early George II cast sterling silver taperstick has a plain classical English form.

The cylindrical capital is encircled with bands of applied decoration in addition to a central applied girdle.

The waisted panelled section of the column features rounded square knop with incurved corners to the upper portion and a circular knop to the lower portion.

The circular sunken well is ornamented with a contemporary engraved crest depicting an animal erased and pierced through the neck with an arrow.

This Georgian taper candlestick is supported by a square stepped base with incurved corners.

This taperstick does not have a weighted base.

This antique taperstick is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.

The lion passant, assay mark and date letter of the full hallmarks struck to the underside of the candlestick are all legible; the maker's mark however has been lost in the casting, which is not uncommon.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of Georgian silverware.
