Rare Antique Lighter

Sterling Silver and Enamel Lighter - Antique George V (1928)

An exceptional, fine, and impressive, rare antique George V English sterling silver and enamel lighter; an addition to our smoking related silverware collection

SKU C6716

SORRY ITEM SOLD

This exceptional antique George V sterling silver pocket lighter has a rectangular form with rounded sides.

The surface of the body is ornamented with a fine and impressive hot enamel panel depicting a newspaper article from 'The People', Sunday May 5, 1929.

The reverse surface and sides of the body are plain and unembellished.

The hallmarked upper portion of this rare lighter is fitted with a cylindrical, hinged lever/snuffer.

The underside of this antique lighter bears two hallmarked screw fit stoppers, allowing access to the wick and petrol chambers.

Such examples are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.

Maker: Untraced Maker's Mark

Date: 1928

This antique sterling silver lighter is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

There is some crazing to the original enamel panel, in keeping with age and use.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the body and part hallmarks to each detachable component and the upper plateau are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this rare antique lighter.
