Cut Glass and Sterling Silver Mounted Claret Jug by William Hutton & Sons - Antique Victorian

£1,445.00

A fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver mounted, cut glass claret jug; an addition to our wine and drink related collection

SKU W9670

This fine antique Victorian sterling silver and cut glass claret jug has a circular rounded, globular form.

The cylindrical neck is fitted with a fine and impressive plain sterling silver hallmarked mount with the original hallmarked flat hinged cover.

The cover is surmounted with a simplified tri-lobed silver thumbpiece.

This antique claret jug is fitted with a plain angular rounded handle with scrolling upper terminal and featuring a leaf ornamentation to the lower portion.

The glass body of the jug is embellished with a cut glass swirl design to either side, conjoining with undulating bands to the anterior and posterior circumferences.

The body of this impressive English silver and glass claret jug is further ornamented with a star cut base.

Date: 1898

This antique sterling silver and glass claret jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.

The glass is in perfect condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface and part hallmarks to the cover have wear due to their location and in keeping with age; the maker's mark to the cover and the mount are not deeply struck but remain legible.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this impressive example of antique glassware.

Length from back of handle to tip of lip 15.5cm/6.1"

Diameter of body 13.1cm/5.2"

Height to top of thumbpiece 18.9cm/7.4"
