£2,250.00

An exceptional, fine and impressive, unusual and rare antique Edwardian English sterling silver estate/housekeepers box; an addition to the ornamental silverware collection

SKU C6970

This exceptional and unique antique Edwardian sterling silver estate/housekeeper's box has a plain rectangular form.

The surface of the box is plain and unembellished.

The upper portion is fitted with the original, hinged hallmarked cover.

This fully functional lockable catch retains the original mechanism and two keys, allowing three vacant books to be held securely within.

The spines of the books retain their original elucidating titles: 'Addresses', 'Notes' and 'Cash'*.

The underside of this exceptional box retains the original cedar wood and leatherette lining.

This exceptional housekeeper's box is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire.

Such examples, especially with no use to the books, are rare to the market and difficult to locate.

* It can be determined by the titles of these books, in addition to the lockable cover, that this piece was crafted to be both portable and a desk feature. This unusual example of antique English silverware reflects the style of a travelling factors journal box.
