Sterling Silver Snuffer Tray by John Cafe - Antique George II (1747)

£1,645.00

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George II English sterling silver snuffer tray made by John Cafe; an addition to our Georgian silverware collection

SKU A7518

This exceptional antique George II sterling silver snuffer tray has a rectangular incurved form with rounded corners and a Chippendale style border.

The surface of the tray is plain and unembellished, with an applied border to the shaped rim incorporating a leaf design to each corner.

This Georgian silver snuffer tray is fitted with a cast volute scroll decorated C scroll handle with a leaf decorated thumbpiece.

This fine example of Georgian silverware is supported by four cast sterling silver hoof style feet.

This exceptional tray was crafted by the renowned & collectable London silversmith John Cafe.

Maker: John Cafe

Date: 1747

This antique Georgian silver snuffer tray is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

There is a pin head blemish to the surface of the tray; this does not detract from the aesthetically pleasing appearance of the piece.

The applied ornamentation is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the snuffer tray are very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the superior gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this Georgian silverware
