An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver tazza; part of our ornamental silverware collection

SKU C8716

SORRY ITEM SOLD

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver tazza has a circular form onto a figural pedestal and circular foot.

The circular sterling silver tazza dish has a central shallow circular well encompassed with bands of thread decoration, to an intertwining, interlacing reed decorated lattice work body, creating a floral design.

The dish vessel is further ornamented with an impressive embossed leaf and bead decorated border.

The ornamental body of the tazza surmounts an exceptional cast silver pedestal constructed of a kneeling putto* covered with fabric swags, embracing and supporting the dish in their grasp.

The substantial waisted base is embellished with impressive bead decoration to the upper portion, with an impressive chased decorated band to the lower portion.

The rim of the tazza bears the retailer's mark 'R&S Garrard, Panton St, London'.

This desirable tazza was crafted by the renowned silversmith Robert Garrard II, subsequently R & S Garrard & Co.

* In art and culture, a putto (plural: putti) is a chubby male child, usually nude and occasionally bearing wings.

Date: 1861

This antique tazza is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the foot of the tazza and part hallmarks to the putto pedestal are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of Victorian silverware.
