Sterling Silver Centrepiece / Bowl - Arts and Crafts Style - Antique George V

£7,645.00

A magnificent, fine and impressive, large antique George V English sterling silver centrepiece/bowl in the Arts and Crafts style; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection

SKU W8675

This magnificent antique George V sterling silver centrepiece bowl has a plain oval rounded form.

The lower portion of the large body of the silver bowl is ornamented with fine and impressive embossed batwing style fluted ornamentation.

The upper rim is encircled with an impressive pierced decorated baluster gallery style border.

This large centrepiece bowl retains the original detachable push fit wirework display cover.

The centrepiece is fitted with two exceptional angular handles incorporating pierced and chased 'slipped' Tudor rose* designs to the upper portions, all in the Arts and Crafts style.

The bowl is supported by a plain oval domed spreading foot embellished with an applied moulded border to the rim.

This magnificent centrepiece bowl is fitted to a painted wood plinth, encircled with a bespoke vacant silver inscription band; the piece can be supplied without the plinth upon request.

* The Tudor rose, also known as the Union rose, is a traditional heraldic emblem pertaining to England. The conjoined design of the red rose (House of Lancaster) with the white rose (House of York) to the centre was created by Henry VII in the late 15th century as unification of the two houses after his marriage to Elizabeth of York.

Date: 1922

This antique centrepiece bowl is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent condition.

The item has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.

There is a slight indentation to the centre of the interior of the bowl; this does not detract from the aesthetically pleasing appearance of the piece.

The applied, pierced and chased decoration is all very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the bowl are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique barware.
