This exceptional antique English sterling silver paper knife has a plain tapering blade.


This antique paper knife / letter opener is embellished with a cast and applied terminal realistically modelled in the form of a fox's head.


The terminal is embellished with details reproducing the fine definition of the fox's fur and facial features.


The head is further ornamented with cabochon set ruby eyes.


The surface of the blade is plain and unembellished, apart from the full hallmarks to the posterior surface.


This impressive paper knife if the finest example of its type you could hope to acquire and such large examples are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.

This antique paper knife is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The cast decoration is all very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the reverse surface of the blade are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
